Problem Statement

Online shopping PRODUCT REVIEWS are biased and unreliable.

One of the problems today with online shopping is that, unfortunately, the costumer still don't know how reliable products bought online will be.Through further research, I have developed a product that could mitigate and perhaps solve the problem of current and future disappointing online shopping experiences.

Design thinking

In order to successfully understand the problem and develop the best possible solution, I decided to follow the design thinking process. This guide would give me structure through the entire process.

Proposed Solution

A consumer only product review platform for online shoppers.

• Eliminate or mitigate unpleasant online shopping experiences.
• Create a space for customers to learn from each other’s shopping experience and share their recommendations.
• Build a reliable database of product reviews that shoppers can trust.

User Journey

Personas

The process of creating personas helped me find my target audience and different scenarios my product could become useful. My target audience range between 15 - 50 years old, simply due to the introduction of smart phones in society.

Proposed Product Idea

“More Customers Are Shopping Online Now Than At Height Of Pandemic, Fueling Need For Digital Transformation".  - Blake Morgan, Forbes 2020

  • Focusing on the need of making online shopping a more trustworthy experience, I have decided to develop a reliable app for customers to share and find other customers' product reviews.

  • This multimedia platform will serve as a space for real consumers to share their opinions that are not influenced by the company’s sponsorships or marketing reviews.

3. Clickable Low-fidelity prototype

With the prototype at this stage I began testing.

Usability Testings

Using the clickable low-fidelity prototype version of the app, I was able to conduct usability testing and ask random participants to complete generic tasks in order to gather some user-centered feedback.

Round 1: Findings

  • From this first stage test, I was already able to find features that I could make more accessible to users.

  • Navigation needed a signifier. Some users were confused on where they were.

Round 2: Findings

  • On the second round of testing, navigation thankfully was not an issue anymore.

  • In one of the tasks, my participants pointed out that the review rating were not familiar or intuitive enough. Did further research and brought the star rating which my participants suggested.

Future steps

  • Good marketing strategy would need to be developed.

  • Monetization for creators would need to be discussed further with a business analyst.

  • Future testing will need to be completed before the app is ready to be launched.

What I've learned

This project allowed me to learn a lot from the Ux/Ui design field. Although my background in Industrial Design came in handy, it definitely brought many challenges. My visual and user experience skills after this project are much more well refined. User testings were the highlight of this project to me. Seeing people test the app and its functions definitely made it come to life.
